Filofax vs Smartphone and a Radley Organiser!

Last month I mentioned that I’d picked up a Radley mini organiser in a charity shop and I was already using a Filofax Mini (Amazona – you can read about that here).  To make the switch required a bit of slimming down, so I finally made the decision to take out the diary section – yikes!  Drastic huh?!

I’ll explain… firstly, I like a challenge, and secondly, I could really do without the extra weight in my handbag!  So I thought I’d see how I would cope with using the diary on my phone and using a Filofax (or in this case, Radley organiser) for my notes, to-do and banking.

My smartphone is a Samsung Galaxy S3 (Android operating system) and it comes loaded with the app, ‘S Planner,’ which lets you log events and tasks and view your diary in different layouts – Year, Month, Week, Day, List and Task.  This is a great advantage over a paper diary, as you don’t have to replicate the information to see it in different views.  You can assign an icon to your events, which acts like a sticker would in a Filofax to highlight all your important goings on.  There are also a variety of widgets you can place on the homescreens to see your day, month or tasks at a glance.

I’m definitely a paper and pen girl, so I can’t believe I’ve actually been using it quite happily for a month, but I really have!  I’ve also discovered that if I keep a record of what’s in my bank account in the Samsung app ‘S Memo,’ I can actually leave my Filofax at home if I need to.  Most of the time I wouldn’t do this, but for things like a trip to the cinema, out to do the food shopping, etc, where I don’t need all my lists with me, I might do.

Back to the Radley… this organiser is super cute and fits Filofax Mini paper, so it’s easy to get refills.  I’ve also noticed that you can pick up Radley organisers on eBay at a good price, so that’s a good place to snap one up if you like the look of them.  Here’s mine compared in size to my Mini Amazona:

I decided that the insides needed to be super cute too, and since this is my personal (ie non-work) organiser, I went all out!  I found a lovely pack of thick American Crafts ‘Ready Set Go’ paper in TKMaxx and used regular Filofax Mini dividers as a template to create my new set of colourful dividers.  To finish them off, I punched using my trusty Rapesco hole punch and used a Hello Kitty sticker on the front, which was from a pack I found in a charity shop (score!).  I haven’t labelled them as I know what’s in each section and I wanted to be able to see the paper pattern showing through.

All of this has left me very confused… part of me is really happy to have a lighter handbag, and another part of me is hankering to go back to personal size again and stuff it until it’s nice and fat!  But I am wondering if I were to put the lists and info that I need with me daily into S Memo, I could perhaps use my Personal Malden for everything else, but keep it the house.  Best of both worlds?!  Does anyone else do this?

So what’s next in my Filofax journey?  Watch this space…

Trollbeads Combo: Spring Time Fairytale

We’ve had such lovely weather lately that I thought it was time for a new Spring Trollbeads combo!   I wanted to go for a fairytale theme, with pastel OOAKs and fantasy silvers, which remind me of spring time in the garden.

I’ve used really chunky silvers, such as the Fantasy Elf and Spirit of Freedom, which stand out boldly against the soft colours of the glass – I think it works, what do you think?

(Working clockwise from the clasp, the 1st, 3rd, 8th and 10th glass beads are all OOAKs)

Melissa Shoes – an update on those comfy heels!

A couple of months ago, I blogged about my experience with Melissa Shoes (you can read it here).  Now that I’ve worn them some more, I felt it only fair to give you a little update…

You might remember I tried out the Neon  in Mostard (yellow) and Hello III in Purple Flock:

neon hello III melissa shoes

The Neons are still my favourite, they’re really comfy and so easy to walk in, both when wearing tights and without, I think because of the support the ankle strap gives.  They’re a real conversation piece too – the colour is fab!  The only discomfort I get when wearing these is at the balls of my feet after long periods of standing – if you’re used to wearing heels a lot of the time I don’t think you’d have this problem.

I braved wearing the Hello III pair out for a night of dancing at the weekend and was a little worried about the problems I’d had before with a blister where the strap meets inside the shoe.  As I mentioned before, I used a blister pad over that area and I managed to dance for 3 hours straight without any rubbing anywhere – a miracle!!

Girls, I’m seriously impressed with this brand (and no I don’t work for them!), I think it’s the first time I’ve ever had heels that don’t rub anywhere and are genuinely a joy to wear.  I’m not saying you can wear them for hours and hours on end without any pain, but they’re certainly the closest I’ve ever found in heels!  If you have any other tips or brands to recommend, please leave a comment and I’ll continue my search!

In the meantime, I’m eagerly awaiting my birthday next month, as I happen to know my lovely husband has hidden away a pair of these beauties:

These gorgeous Ultragirl Bow Flats were designed as part of a collaboration by Melissa Shoes with Vivenne Westwood called ‘Anglomania’ – I just had to have a pair – can’t wait!  Look out for my full review of those in a couple of month’s time…

In the meantime, why not check out some of the range and other Vivienne Westwood shoes on Amazon UK here…

Why I love: Crocs Olivia Peeptoe Pumps

As you might have noticed, I have a few pairs of Crocs!  They’re just so comfy, I can’t get enough!

Olivia‘ were a present from my husband on valentines day and he chose my favourite colour, purple!  This style is a bit more glam than some of the others and they look super cute under jeans or with brightly coloured tights and a skirt or dress.  They’d also be great for the beach, but I’ve been wearing them all weathers at the weekend, in the office and out in the evening ‘cos I like them so much!

They have a sparkly ‘jibbitz’ on the side and a very cute peeptoe cutout, showing a bit of ‘toe cleavage’!  Comfort wise I can’t really fault it – they’re a tighter fit than ‘Malindi’ but the material is slightly more flexible, so in my opinion, even more comfortable.  If your feet tend to get hot in the summer, you might prefer the Malindi style for the extra breathing space, otherwise I’d say go for Olivia!

They’re available in plenty of colour choices – Brown, Red, Bubblegum, New Gold, Dhalia, Ultraviolet and Black – get yours in the UK here or directly from Crocs below.

The day I met the Trollbeads Beadmaker!

Late last year I had a very special invite to a UK Trollbeads event, where I was able to book an appointment to ‘Meet the Beadmaker’!!  I was told that the beadmaker herself is the longest standing employee of the Trollbeads company and she flew over all the way from Copenhagen especially for these events.  I was allowed to ask for any design I wished for, so I went for my dream bead – an Anniversary Caterpillar in purple!

Above you can see the colour was vibrant while hot but changed when cooled – the final colour of the bead can be seen below.  For comparison, it’s very similar to Purple Stripe - I think the glass colours must be the same.  If you’re interested to see how Trollbeads are made, there’s a great video on YouTube here.

Crocs Around the World!

Crocs are currently running a project about their wearers Around the World - fans have been invited to send in some words about their experiences so I submitted mine.  Today I was featured as the first story of the series, representing the United Kingdom!

My love affair with Crocs has only been alive for just under a year, but already I have seven pairs!  It all started on holiday last year in Cornwall, on the South coast of England….read the full story here.
